Questions about Node.js Hosting
We've put our frequently asked questions right here, so you have your answers before you even start.
Still have questions or just want to chat?
How do I host a Node.js app 24/7?
Deploy a container, pick Node.js, upload your code, add your Environment Variables and start your server: easy as that! Your app keeps running, even if your computer is offline.
Is this a VPS?
No, FPS.ms does not offer VPS hosting. Your Node.js application runs in a container managed by FPS.ms. This means you never have to update its operating system, install security patches or keep the machine running yourself.
Which Node.js versions can I run?
Node.js 12, 14 and 16 up to 24, so every LTS version is there. You can switch between them whenever you like.
How do my npm packages get installed?
Automatically! Your server installs everything in your package.json when it starts.
Can I use TypeScript?
Yes! Compile it to JavaScript and your server runs the result. With GitHub Deploys, your build can run on every push.
Can I host an Express, Fastify or websocket server?
Yes! Your app gets its own Public URL with HTTPS, websockets included. Paid plans can pick the name or connect a domain. For a PHP website, web hosting is the better fit.
Can I deploy my app from GitHub?
Yes, you can deploy your code directly from GitHub, and even automatically (re)deploy your container when you push to your branch. If something breaks in your code, you can always roll back. GitHub deploys are a Pro feature.
Do paid plans include a database?
Yes, every paid plan from 256 MB includes a MariaDB database.
How does the free plan work?
A free plan has to be renewed every day to stay online, and at least once every 28 days to keep its data. More details on the Free Node.js Hosting page.
