Questions about Dynamic DNS

We've put our frequently asked questions right here, so you have your answers before you even start.

Still have questions or just want to chat?

What is Dynamic DNS?

Most home internet connections get a new IP address now and then. Dynamic DNS gives you a hostname, like crimsoncrew.dynip.nl, that follows your IP. Your home lab, self-hosted app or game server at home stays reachable under the same name.

How do I get started?

Pick a name on dynip.nl, let your router or a small script send your IP to FPS.ms, and you're done! The setup guide walks you through these steps.

How does the free plan work?

A free hostname has to be renewed every 7 days to keep working. Miss it, and you have 28 days to renew before the name is removed. More details on the Free Dynamic DNS page.

What do I get with Pro?

A 5-minute TTL, so a new IP shows up faster, and no weekly renew. Pro is paid monthly or yearly, and with auto-renew on it renews from your balance.

What does the TTL mean?

It's how long other networks remember your IP before they ask again. With a 15-minute TTL, most networks see your new IP within 15 minutes of an update. On Pro, that's 5 minutes.

Does it work with IPv6?

No, your hostname points to an IPv4 address.

Can I have more than one hostname?

Every plan covers one hostname, and one account can have a free and a Pro hostname at the same time.

Ready to set up Dynamic DNS?

Start free with one hostname. Go Pro for a 5-minute TTL and auto-renew.
