Where can I host Lua for free?
Here! The free plan runs one Lua script or server with 128 MB of RAM around the clock, as long as you press Renew once a day.
How much fits in 128 MB?
Plenty. Lua itself needs only a few megabytes, so a tool, a small HTTP server or a script that runs every few minutes fits easily.
Does it really run 24/7?
Yes. The container never sleeps, and if your script crashes it starts again by itself. All you do is renew the free plan in the panel once a day.
Is this a VPS?
No, FPS.ms does not offer VPS hosting. Your Lua application runs in a container managed by FPS.ms. This means you never have to update its operating system, install security patches or keep the machine running yourself.
How do I install LuaRocks packages?
List them in your .rockspec, or in the LuaRocks Packages setting, and they install when your server starts.
Can people reach my app from the internet?
Yes! Every free server gets its own Public URL with HTTPS, like lunar-lark.hostedbyfps.com, so a small API or webhook works on the free plan.
What are the limits?
128 MB of RAM, 25% of one CPU core and 250 MB of storage. The free plan has no database and no backup slot.
What if I forget to renew?
Your script stops until you renew it. Renew within 28 days to bring it back with all your files; after that, the server is removed.
How do I move to a paid plan?
Upgrade from the panel and keep your files and settings. Paid Lua hosting adds memory, CPU, a MariaDB database and backups.
