Questions about Discord Bot Hosting
We've put our frequently asked questions right here, so you have your answers before you even start.
Still have questions or just want to chat?
How do I host a Discord bot 24/7?
Deploy a container, pick Python or Node.js for your Discord bot, upload your code, add your Environment Variables and start your server: easy as that! It keeps running, even if your computer is offline. The setup guide walks you through these steps.
Can I deploy my bot from GitHub?
Yes, you can deploy your code directly from GitHub, and even automatically (re)deploy your container when you push to your branch. If something breaks in your code, you can always roll back. GitHub deploys are a Pro feature.
Is this a VPS?
No, FPS.ms does not offer VPS hosting. Your Discord bot runs in a container managed by FPS.ms. This means you never have to update its operating system, install security patches or keep the machine running yourself.
Which runtimes are supported?
Python and Node.js, plus Bun, Dart, Haskell, Kotlin and Rust. Pick the one your bot is written in.
How does the free plan work?
A free plan has to be renewed every day to stay online, and at least once every 28 days to keep its data. More details on the Free Discord Bot Hosting page.
How much memory does my bot need?
Simple bots run fine on our free plan. For bigger bots, 256 to 512 MB of memory is the sweet spot. If your bot is heavy, 1 or 2 GB of memory runs it with ease. Need more? Contact us for a custom plan.
Do paid plans include a database?
Yes, every paid plan from 256 MB includes a MariaDB database.
Do slash commands and intents work?
Yes, of course! Your bot connects to Discord the same way it does from your own computer or development environment. That means slash commands, buttons, and the intents you enable in the Developer Portal all work.
Can I run multiple bots in one container?
We don't limit the number of Discord bots you can run in one container, as long as your main file starts them all. Keep in mind you will hit the resource limits faster.
